   Since I have been away various times for business, it was impossible for me to respond quickly. I am leaving again tomorrow, but you can perfectly well address your answer to M. Tornaghi, because I will be gone for around twenty days.

   First of all, I believe I must give you confidential notice of a letter that I have just sent to M. Rabourdin, a copy of which I have enclosed.

   Nevertheless, I believe that this will not be sufficient to convince M. Rabourdin that his resignation is all but inevitable!... and this is precisely the issue, in the hope that the change can be done as amicably as possible.

   M. Tornaghi will write you at greater length because I haven’t the time, given that my health forces me to leave now for the usual therapeutic treatment I receive.

   In the meantime, shall I thank you?... that’s the way it’s done – before, during, and after!!

   Give my regards to that most pleasant fellow M. Lobel, and accept my warmest greetings and the assurance of my complete trust and respect.

           Obbligato ad assentarmi più volte per affari, mi è stato impossibile risponderle rapidamente: parto di nuovo domani, ma lei potrà benissimo indirizzare la sua risposta al Sig. Tornaghi – perché io sarò assente una ventina di giorni.

Prima di tutto, credo di doverle dare la notizia confidenziale di una lettera che ho appena inviato al Sigr Rabourdin, la cui copia è qui acclusa.

         Tuttavia, credo che questo non servirà a convincere il Sigr Rabourdin della quasi inevitabilità delle sue dimissioni!... e il punto è proprio lì, desiderando che il cambiamento si faccia nel modo più amichevole possibile.            

Il Sig.r Tornaghi le scriverà più a lungo, perché non ne ho il tempo, essendo obbligato a partire oggi stesso, forzato dalla mia salute che reclama subito la mia cura abituale.

                Nell’attesa devo ringraziarla?… è la prassi, prima, durante, dopo!!

        Mi ricordi al simpaticissimo Sig. Lobel, e gradisca i miei migliori saluti, così come l’assicurazione di tutta la mia fiduciosa stima.
