Illustrious Maestro,
I had a visit from Architect Boito, who brought news of you both, and I was distressed to hear that Sig.ra Peppina has not yet completely recovered from her illness and that you are preoccupied for her! – I ardently await tidings of her improvement, even because I might therefore hope to see you soon in Milan, which we have all wanted for such a long time.
Arch. Boito also informed me of some doubts you expressed regarding the sum destined for the Construction. I should mention that I discussed this precise issue just yesterday with Avv. Campanari, who contacted me immediately. Campanari has asked me to remind you that, in order to reassure you of any possible doubt, he had written a special document which he gave you so that you could transcribe it. If you have not done so, or if you do not have Campanari’s manuscript close at hand, it can easily be rewritten; but then you need to recopy it in the requisite legal format – for which, if you think you might be coming shortly to Milan, it can be done here, or Campanari can come to Genova with no problem for an hour or two, and that way he can write out what is required for legal purposes in your presence.
I also want to let you know that I still have here the sum you are owed for the 2nd Semester 1896.
So I await your orders; but certainly the most welcome response would be the announcement that you both are coming here soon.
With my most humble regards and heartfelt gratitude, as always
Yours most devotedly, Giulio Ricordi
