        Ho visto stamane l’Illica, di ritorno da Viareggio, che mi ha riempito la testa di molte, di troppe cose intorno a te, intorno a me.

        Spero che andando a Bayreuth, passerai per Milano e così avrò il piacere di vederti. A voce molte cose, di quelle troppe, saranno chiarite e vedrai che il mio affetto per te è sempre quello di un tempo – chè nulla dal canto mio può averlo turbato o diminuito.

   I saw Illica today, having just returned from Viareggio, who filled my head with many, too many things regarding you, regarding me.

   I hope you will pass through Milan on your way to Bayreuth and that way I will have the pleasure of seeing you. Many of those outrageous things will be clarified verbally and you will see that my affection for you is always what it was — that nothing on my part can have disturbed or diminished it.
