Caro Giacomo,

Adami, al quale ho raccontato tutto quanto avevo fatto a Parigi per la ripresa delle tue opere all'Opéra-Comique e dell'intervento del Leonbestia, ti dirà pure di una mia idea e di altra del Vaucaire per riconquistare la posizione perduta – siamo in piena guerra e da buoni Italiani dobbiamo vincere.....e vinceremo.

Scrivimi subito quel che decidi di fare e allora scriverò a Parigi o a Venezia – io preferirei Parigi, ché sarei certo della vittoria.

Verrò a Zurigo, ma solo dopo che tu avrai parlato con gli Editori viennesi e se crederai utile la mia presenza – ti confesso che, in questi momenti, non mi piacerebbe troppo di trovarmi a contatto con due croati!!

Dear Giacomo,

 

   Adami, who heard from me about everything I did in Paris for the readmission of your operas at the Opéra-Comique and also about Leonbestia's [that beast Leoncavallo's] intervention, will also tell you about an idea I've had and another one from Vaucaire to regain the lost position — we are in the middle of a war and as good Italians we must win.....and win we will.

   Write me immediately about what you decide to do, and I'll write to Paris or to Venice — I prefer Paris, where victory would be assured.

   I will come to Zurich, but only after you have spoken with the Viennese Publishers and if you believe my presence would be useful — I must confess that I would not be particularly happy right now to have to meet with two Croatians!!
