Nella dolorosa perdita del padre mio , ho avuto così numerose prove di amicizia e di benevolenza, che se non riuscirono di conforto, valsero però a darmi coraggio per proseguire in questa Via Crucis che è la nostra vita. Io poi debbo a voi speciali ringraziamenti, che il vostro Giornale ebbe parole di speciale stima per mio padre : del che vi sono davvero gratissimo.

Ora poi mi date una novella prova di amicizia coll’inserzione dell’articolo delle “Conversazioni[”]. Io trovavo non doveroso, ma appena appena equo che all’Amm.^e del giornale venisse rifusa la spesa relativa: non si tratta di una semplice notizia, ma di un articolo intero!! e non era proprio il caso di avere l’ospitalità! Voi ed il cortese amico Comm. Minervini , non avete voluto = ed a me non resta che ringraziare assai vivamente amendue, dichiarando però che desidero ricambiare tanta cortesia, ed io spero mi permetterete ciò fare con qualcuna delle ns. pubblicazioni di fine d’anno; metto fin d’ora a vs. disposizione tante copie per l’importo di nette lire Cinquecento= e spero che voi non vorrete farmi il dispiacere di rifiutarle.

Scusate se non vi scrivo più a lungo: sono accasciato moralmente e fisicamente: ancora, grazie a Voi ed al Comm. Minervini , e credetemi con tutta amicizia V.^o D.^mo

With the devastating loss of my father I have received such an outpouring of friendship and benevolence that, while it was unable to comfort me, it nonetheless gave me the courage to persevere along this Via Crucis of life. To you I owe a particular word of thanks for the especially considerate words your Newspaper had for my father ; I am truly and deeply grateful.

Now you have given me yet another testament of friendship with the insertion of the article from the Conversazioni [della domenica]. I found it not only obligatory, but at the very least reasonable, that the Administration of the newspaper should be reimbursed for this expense, which involves not just a simple news item but an entire article! And there was no real reason why we should enjoy such hospitality! Yet you and our kind friend Comm. Minervini would have nothing of it, leaving me only to thank the both of you with my deepest appreciation, declaring however that I hope you will allow me to repay such courtesy with various copies of our year-end publications for a net value of Five hundred lire, which I am now placing at your disposal – and I hope you will not do me the displeasure of refusing them.

Forgive me if I do not write more: I am physically and morally exhausted. Again, thanks to you and to Comm. Minervini , and believe me your most sincere and devoted friend.
