Essendosi jeri tenuta adunanza de’ miei egregi consoci per l’approvazione del bilancio, vennero prese in attento esame le condizioni di codesta filiale, e mi spiace veramente dover dire che non se ne ebbe motivo di soddisfazione. Risulta infatti che la filiale non accenna ad un progresso di affari, fosse questo anche moderato, il che indica chiaramente che non vi si cura lo sviluppo della clientela, nè le buone relazioni coi maestri ecc. ecc. Non ho mancato di scagionare in parte gli addetti a codesta filiale, accennando, sia al locale provvisorio, sia ad altre circostanze straordinarie che impediscono una maggiore attività: ma se questo ho fatto per scrupoloso dovere di benevolenza verso i miei impiegati, non posso tacere, in via riservata, che le osservazioni fatte hanno ragione di essere. Ho potuto di persona vedere come sia fatto con poco zelo e poca gentilezza il servizio del pubblico, il che malamente impressiona in ispecie i forestieri, e come nessuna pena vengasi data per far conoscere ed apprezzare le ns. edizioni, giacchè si vende proprio solo a chi non crede fare diversamente che di venire al ns. magazzino. A prevenire quindi spiacevoli provvedimenti, o misure radicali, ho creduto bene esporre esttamente lo stato delle cose, e vorrei sperare che con zelo e buon volere, tale stato non abbia più a dar luogo a simili rimostranze.

During the reunion yesterday with my esteemed associates for approval of the financial statement, the conditions of this affiliate branch were closely examined, and I am truly sorry to say that there was no reason to be satisfied. Indeed, it seems that there is no sign of progress, be it even moderate, in the affairs of this affiliate, which clearly indicates little regard for cultivating the general clientele, good relationships with music teachers, etc. etc. I did not fail to partially excuse the employees of this affiliate, mentioning the temporary location and other extraordinary circumstances that impede greater activity; but while I did this out of a scrupulous sense of obligatory benevolence toward my employees, I cannot deny privately that the observations made were legitimate ones. I have been able to see for myself how little enthusiasm and courtesy are invested in customer relations, giving especially the out-of-town visitors a particularly poor impression, and how no effort is made to increase the public awareness and appreciation of our editions, such that sales are made only to those who believe their only choice is to come to our store. Consequently, in order to prevent unpleasant disciplinary action or radical measures, I believe it is best to lay out exactly how things stand, and I would hope that with your diligence and determination there will be no further cause for similar reproach.
