A stimata s/. 22 corr/.

In response to your esteemed letter of the 22nd of this month, I must say your proposal sounds attractive, were I not worried about the additional new expenses. Should the rent remain around 2,000, including the music warehouse, an annual increase of £200 would not be much, with the hope that the improved location would be adequate compensation. But the moving and furnishing expenses are what trouble me: the showroom is larger and will need new shelving; plus new lighting for the storefront windows, and so on. You can see for yourself from the financial statement for this affiliate that it is on the verge of falling into deficit! – which means that the slightest expense immediately changes the result.

In your letter you mention the rent, internal improvements to be done, etc., but nothing regarding the consequent expenses, which is hardly reassuring. Nevertheless, the points you make are worth consideration and I want to take them into account; but in order to reach an informed decision, I need to know if for your part you have properly assessed the eventual expenses, made an estimate, and considered whatever else might be involved in a move of this nature.

If you have a provisional commitment with the owner you might see if you can extend the deadline; meanwhile, if you will please provide the necessary facts and figures for me to use as proper criteria, I will see if I am able to accept your proposal, for which I would be more than happy.

   With sincere regards, I remain

Yours warmly,

Giulio Ricordi
