Smo  Sr Calabi.

Milan, 16 March 1899

St.mo Sig. Calabi,

In response to your letter of the 14th of this month, take no offence if I confirm what I verbally communicated to you two days ago, and that is that I do not intend to make radical changes to the articulated personnel structure of our company. This would be contrary to my own convictions but it is also advisable due to the precarious nature of the current company, which is nearing the end of its existence. As for Rome, that was a question of force majeure, and I dare you to find a more compelling force majeure than the death of the director.

With regard to the affiliates of Paris and Rome I will write directly to those respective directors to let them know what I want done.

In any event, I will bear your proposals in mind as further proof of your long-standing dedication to this Company and to me in particular, for which I am grateful. And if I am unable to put those proposals into effect, due to extenuating circumstances, that does not by any means reflect, on my part, a reduced trust in or admiration of you; indeed, quite the opposite.

   My renewed warmest regards,

Giulio Ricordi
