So che Ella aspetta una mia decisione a proposito di una modifica nel conteggio delle provvigioni sui noli. Ebbene: se, nel complesso, non posso dirmi malcontento dell’andamento di codesta filiale, invece non posso dirmi soddisfatto dell’opera personale indefessa di chi dirige la filiale stessa. La sorveglianza giornaliera in persona è indispensabile e non basta avere fiducia in un personale più o meno abile, più o meno onesto! – So quanto mi si potrà rispondere a propria giustificazione!!... ma non l’accetto perché anche so come e quando si rimanga nella filiale, so come e quando si occupi dello spaccio, so infine che troppo si fa a fidanza sulle ottime qualità intellettuali del direttore, le quali non bastano.
Le assidue cure personali ben altri risultati otterrebbero alla filiale ed in breve tempo. Per le ragioni suesposte non credo accogliere la domanda riflettente le provvigioni sui noli, le quali continueranno ad essere calcolate come pel passato.

I know that you were expecting my decision about a change to the rate of commissions on rentals. Well: while I cannot say that, overall, I am disappointed by how things are proceeding at this affiliate, on the other hand I am not satisfied with the tireless personal work of he that manages the affiliate. Daily in person oversight is indispensable and it is not sufficient to place one’s trust in a staff that is more or less capable, more or less trustworthy! I know what you might respond by way of justifying yourself!!... but I do not accept that because I know how and when you are present in the shop, I know how and when you are directly involved with retail sales, I know, finally, that you place too much trust in the fine intellectual capacities of yourself as director, but those alone are not enough.
Assiduous first-hand involvement would get very different results at this affiliate, and in short order. For the reasons I have outlined above I see no reason to consider the request to increase the commissions on rentals, which will continue to be calculated as in the past.
