Al M°Zandonai, Pesaro

 

Carissimo Maestro,

Caplet sarà a Varese presso Henry Russell sabato sera – avrei combinato con Russell che ci troveremmo tutti al Palace Hotel a Varese domenica mattina alle 10 e avremmo un poco del mattino e il pomeriggio per udire “Francesca”. Avrei combinato così per non dare troppo disturbo al Dr Pizzini il quale dovrebbe ospitare Russell, Caplet, Clausetti e il sottoscritto. Caplet poi potrà venire a Pesaro per qualche giorno e meglio penetrare con voi nei meandri della musica di “Francesca”.

        Russell può venire a pigliarvi col suo automobile per le ore 9 a Porto Ceresio – voi potete venire col motorino da Figino sino alla sponda italica. Io da Como, col più modesto dei treni verrei a Varese col fido Acate  Clausetti – e alle 10 in Varese sarà riunito l’alto ed internazionale consesso.

Spero che troverete la combinazione di vostro gusto e che me lo farete sapere.

To M° Zandonai, Pesaro

 

   Dearest Maestro,

   Caplet will be in Varese to see Henry Russell Saturday evening — I had thought to make arrangements with Russell for all of us to meet at the Palace Hotel in Varese on Sunday morning at 10, and we'd have a bit of the morning and the afternoon to hear "Francesca". I prefer to organize things this way to avoid further disturbing Dr Pizzini, with whom Russell, Caplet, Clausetti, and I would be staying. Caplet will then be able to come to Pesaro for a few days to plumb the musical depths of "Francesca" in greater detail with you.

   Russell can come pick you up with his automobile at 9 at Porto Ceresio — you can get to the Italian side of the lake by motorboat from Figino. Meanwhile I'll be coming from Como to Varese on one of those scrubby trains with my fidus Achates Clausetti — and at 10 the exalted and international symposium will convene.

   I hope these plans are to your liking and that you will let me know.
