Caro Avvocato,

Mi perdoni se non ho ancora riscontrato la sua gradita del 5 corr., ma purtroppo le condizioni di salute di mia madre anziché migliorare sono andate sempre peggiorando, cosicché vivo in una continua ansia, che mi lascia poca, o nessuna serenità di spirito. Per quanto riflette il Sindacato Russo posso dirle che Ettore Bocconi accetta di farne parte. In occasione del banchetto offerto a Gabriele Hanotaux, ho avuto occasione di parlarne all’Onor. De Capitani, deputato di Milano, ed al Senatore Salmoiraghi, i quali hanno accolto favorevolmente la mia proposta, ma si riservavano di studiarne i dettagli prima di pigliare qualunque decisione. Quanto al Senatore Salmoiraghi potrò occuparmene direttamente io a Milano. Per l’Onor. Giuseppe De Capitani D’Arzago (al quale accennai anche di parlarne pure all’Onor. Romeo Gallenga, nome a lui ben accetto) potrebbe incaricarsi lei di dare ampi e maggiori dettagli per ottenere l’adesione di questi due Deputati, qualora ella lo ritenga necessario ed opportuno? In tal caso mi telegrafi affermativamente, ed io telegraferò all’Onor. De Capitani che ho incaricato lei di dargli maggiori ragguagli, ed ella sarà così gentile di andarlo a cercare alla Camera dei Deputati, per fissare un convegno con lui e con l’Onor. Gallenga. Le sarò grato se vorrà favorirmi nuove informazioni nell’affare del Caoutchouc, per informarne anche l’amico Bocconi che mi richiede continuamente di notizie. Il Ministero della Guerra le ha scritto in merito ai tre punti accennati nella gradita lettera del 5 marzo? Da Luzzatti ha avuto la bozza di contratto di cui parlammo a Torino? Quale sarebbe in totale il capitale liquido raccolto sin qui? è esso sufficiente per esplicare il programma minimo compreso l’acquisto dell’Officina in Piacenza, o occorrono altri danari?

Dear Counselor,

Forgive me for not responding sooner to your letter of the 5th of this month, but unfortunately my mother's health has not improved as hoped but rather suffered a steady decline, such that I live in a continual state of anxiety which leaves me precious little peace of mind, if any at all.

With regard to the Russian Consortium, I can tell you that Ettore Bocconi has agreed to lend his participation. During the banquet for Gabriel Hanotaux I had the opportunity to speak with Hon. De Capitani, chamber deputy from Milan, and to Senator Salmoiraghi, both of whom were receptive to my proposal, but they reserve the right to examine it in detail before making any decision. I can work directly with Senator Salmoiraghi here in Milan. For Hon. Giuseppe De Capitani D'Arzago (to whom I suggested speaking also with Hon. Romeo Gallenga, a name he knows he can trust), would you be disposed to providing him with more information and in greater detail to secure the participation of these two Deputies, should you find it necessary and opportune? If so, send me an affirmative wire and I will telegraph Hon. De Capitani that I have authorized you to give him a more exhaustive briefing, after which I would ask you to be so kind as to go find him at the Chamber of Deputies to arrange a meeting with him and Hon. Gallenga.

I would sincerely appreciate receiving any updates you have concerning the Caoutchouc affair, so that I can also inform my friend Bocconi who asks about it continually. Has the Minister of War written to you regarding the three points mentioned in his welcome letter of 5 March? Has Luzzatti given you the draft of the contract we discussed in Turin? What would be the total of actual capital collected thus far? Is it sufficient to carry out the basic program, including acquisition of the Production Facility in Piacenza, or is more money needed?
