Ed ancora Le debbo dire di quale sommo conforto mi fu la di Lei desiderata presenza al convegno di Domenica scorsa: l’alta autorità che circonda il di Lei nome, non è solo dovuta alle eminenti doti del di Lei ingegno, ma è naturale portato di qualità elettissime, che gli Inglesi con parola felice qualificano, col dire: gentleman.

You will decide in your infinite wisdom, kind Sir, what steps to be taken are most useful and necessary. And I must tell you again how welcome and immensely comforting your presence at the convention last Sunday was for me: the prestigious authority that surrounds your name is not only a tribute to your outstanding intelligence, but also the natural consequence of those most distinguished qualities which the English recognize with the felicitous term: gentleman.
Even though this bothersome, not to say disastrous, lawsuit was and is the cause of so much serious preoccupation and undeserved unhappiness for me, I will not complain because it allowed me the honor of making your personal acquaintance and the privilege of having you in my defense.
My ingenuousness, which long experience has never been able to correct, inevitably has me reeling with astonishment when I discover what subtle and wicked stratagems the adversary is capable of using!.... It is something which always leaves me insufficiently prepared, or to put it better, incapable of understanding how to fight!
For that matter, yesterday the estimable Counselor Dina again confirmed that the situation is serious!.... Would it not be better to take it philosophically and say: après la pluie, le beau temps [the darkest hour comes just before the dawn]? Thinking it through, however… the first calls for an umbrella, the second a parasol…. so it is better to be prepared.
But I do not want to consume any more of your precious time; and in reaffirming just how steadfastly I rely upon you for your support, may I again express my heartfelt thanks together with my most humble regards.
