Qui accluso mi pregio inviarle il bilancio di codesta filiale per l’esercizio 1893-94 = l’eloquenza delle cifre è tale che mi dispensa da qualsiasi commento: ne vale a menomare il meschino risultato la spesa straordinaria di riparazione. Poiché è il movimento musica in se stesso che è meschino, ne in modo alcuno indica che qualcosa siasi ottenuto in aumento della clientela, attirandola a se, di preferenza ad altri negozianti. Certo si è che la via fin qui percorsa è quella che conduce alla definitiva chiusura di codesta filiale, e dovrò pure accedere alla opinione de’ miei cointeressati i quali trovano giustamente inutile d’investire un capitale senza frutto alcuno, anzi con danno emergente. Nella lusinga ch’Ella impieghi tutta la di Lei attività nell’attirare più numerosa clientela di dilettanti ed artisti, largheggiando con questi ultimi anche negli sconti di maestro, ho so stabilito col venturo 1895, di modificare in qualche parte lo sconto alla filiale: Ella potrà quindi regolarsi in proposito, specialmente per la musica a netti B = la quale potrebbe in molti casi fare concorrenza alla musica estera: epperò è necessario nulla lasciare di intentato facendo queste e le altre nostre edizioni, interessando Maestri, Direttori d’Istituti d’educazione ecc. ecc. Certo è necessario uno sforzo di buon volere e di attività, non aspettare che la clientela entri in negozio perchè altrimenti non può fare! - E questo mi permetto osservare perché mai veggo da cod.a filiale venire proposte o progetti ideati pel migliore sviluppo degli affari, tutto riducendosi al monotono andamento giornaliero.
Ecco pertanto gli sconti accordati alla filiale, dal Gennaio 1895:
Musica a lordi = 85%
“ netti A = 60%
“ “ B = 50%
Libretti = 60%.

Enclosed please find the 1893-94 financial statement for this affiliate. The eloquence of these figures spares me from making any additional comment. Such meager results can hardly be justified by extraordinary expenses for repairs, since the sales of music there are already meager in themselves; nor do they indicate that you were able to cultivate any growth of your clientele by convincing customers to prefer your shop over others. There can be no doubt that the road traveled thus far leads to the definitive closure of this affiliate, and I must yield to the opinion of my fellow shareholders who justifiably believe it is useless to invest capital without any profit whatsoever, indeed with only the threat of more expenses to come. In the hope that you direct all of your efforts toward attracting more customers, both amateurs and professionals (including the latter in the discounts offered to music teachers), I have decided from this upcoming 1895 to partially modify the discount for this affiliate: you may therefore adjust things accordingly, especially for category B retail music, which could in many cases compete with foreign publications. Therefore no attempt should be spared to make these and our other publications interesting to Music teachers, Directors of educational institutions, etc. etc. Certainly this requires determination and energy: do not wait for customers to enter the shop of their own initiative, because otherwise things cannot go on as they are! – By the way, I might point out to you that I never see proposals or projects from this affiliate aimed at improving business, but rather that everything is reduced instead to the monotony of daily routine.
Here then are the affiliate discounts, effective from January 1895:

Retail music [category] A= 60%
Retail music [category] B= 50%
Libretti= 60%
