I have the honor of responding to your esteemed letter of the 20th of this month. The position held by Tommaso Castelli should have already been eliminated long ago because it is redundant. Given my extreme reluctance to ever let anyone go, however, I continued for approximately a year to keep Castelli employed. Now, considering the serious disciplinary issue that has been added to the existing considerations of redundancy, I would be absolutely remiss in my duties were I not to make a decision that had by now been imposed by concurrent circumstances.
However, because this disciplinary issue in no way reflects upon Castelli’s honesty, I would be more than happy to recommend him should the opportunity ever present itself. It will be my great pleasure to do so especially as a gesture toward you personally, whom I have always held in high regard for your outstanding intellect.
