I have asked myself many times why the cigarettes of our State Monopoly can be found everywhere abroad with the exception of France. Undoubtedly such a competent and farsighted agency as this Hon. Direction of the Department of State-Controlled Entities [SCE] will have tried in the past to initiate discussions with the French national tobacco agency; and if an agreement was not possible, it might have well been that the moment was not yet right.
As someone sincerely hopeful to see the exportation of our Macedonia cigarettes extended to France, I would like to offer my services to this Hon. Direction of the SCE, should you be interested in resuming negotiations toward a concrete result. During this upcoming month of April the Italy-France Cooperative Committee, of which I am Treasurer, will meet in Paris with the France-Italy Cooperative Committee to discuss various and important questions that are of mutual interest to our two countries, especially those of an industrial commercial nature.
Given this occasion, I would be more than pleased if this Hon. Direction of the SCE were to authorize me to undertake the necessary negotiations with your French counterpart to establish an agreement for the exportation in France of our Macedonia cigarettes, and eventually of Toscano cigars as well, since certainly when the war is over a great many of our manual laborers, consumers of Tuscan cigars, will find work in France rebuilding those regions that were destroyed by the German invasion.
