6 May [actually June, confirmed by the content of the letter] 1913
Dear Illica,
Thank you for your commemorative message today — it's a terribly sad occasion for me and for all of us, both at home and in the office.
You are right: the Committee has done little — and now with summer approaching nothing more will be done — I'll try then to get Fenini moving to collect more funds. More than 16,000 lire are already available, but to do things right we will need 20,000 — and that goal will be reached.
I'm ever more inclined to choose Secchi after having seen the monument to Verdi that he created for Busseto, which is stupendous in its sheer simplicity.
I had already read the Constitutional Charter for the Società Renzo Sonzogno — it looks like quite a mess to me, made to order for all manner of trouble — who will be hoodwinked? the general manager or the associate partner from Modena?
Believe me always
yours fondly
