Leggo lettera Canori . Me ne spiace molto, ma non posso ripeterti che quanto già ti scrissi: e cioè che per nessuna ragione al mondo io esco dall’orbita degli affari della Casa. Lascio da parte tutte le considerazioni di Canori , sul conto della Casa stessa!!.... e mi limito semplicemente a dichiarare ridicolo che si trovi quasi un obbligo in me di fare da sovventore ad Imprese!!... dato anche l’eccezionalità del caso, non è affare che entri nelle mie viste: e moltissimi anni di esperienza mi confortano nel convincimento, che nessuna causa può smuovere. Quanto al secondo progetto tuo….. non lo credo possibile: in ogni modo non posso prendervi parte comunque sia. A rivederci più tardi - e sempre cordialmente

Dearest Friend D’Ormeville ,

I have read the Canori letter. I am quite sorry, but I can only repeat what I have already written to you: that is, that under no circumstances would I venture beyond the limits circumscribed by Company matters. I won’t even address all of Canori ’s considerations with regard to the Company itself!!.... and I will simply say I find it ridiculous that he should think it all but obligatory for me to serve as financier for the Theatres!!... Given in addition the exceptional nature of the case, it is not an affair that falls within my purview; and many years of experience support this conviction, which cannot be changed by any argument to the contrary. As for your second project..... I do not believe it is possible, and in any case I cannot take part in it, no matter if it is. My salutations until we meet – and as always cordially
