Dear Monsieur,
This morning I had the pleasure of a visit from M. Henri Lobel, who gave me your letters. We made an appointment for tomorrow to talk about the issue.
For the moment I will answer regarding Dolmetch. The person who is interested in him would like the absolute assurance that this is not one of those usual pipe dreams for which, from what they tell me, M. Dolmetch is known to be partial! – Just between us, I seem to have understood that he has hoodwinked his own family more than once!! – On the other hand, one can only presume that you must be well informed of the situation, since you too are involved in this affair. If so, and if we are truly talking about giving M. Dolmetch a regular position, I believe we can advance one thousand francs to him. But this amount of money must be remitted either by you or by the company you represent, so that we are ensured for any eventual reimbursement. Would you therefore please be so kind as to give me your definitive agreement, and then, once I have the authorization, I will tell you to deposit the 1,000 francs, either as an amount we will owe you, or if you prefer with a direct payment which I will send.
We are still waiting for an answer from M. Lobel regarding the pirate copies of the Falstaff libretto in New York, as well as the Hinrichs-Manon affair in Philadelphia! – Ah!... this American copyright! what a nice business! – Would you have a word with M. Lobel?
Thank you for everything. Meanwhile, my most cordial greetings.
Yours most sincerely,
Giulio Ricordi

Caro Signore.
