Dear Commendatore,

   I include here part of a letter from Mr. Cerf that regards you— should I not have the chance to see you, since Monday morning I leave for Paris, please be so kind as to respond directly to Cerf at this address:

   I will remain in Paris up through the evening of Sunday the 24th, and I would be most happy to see you there if you can accept Cerf's invitation to meet straight away with the Parisian bankers.

   In anticipation of the impending French-Italian-American coalition supported by Cerf, I have opened my own Import-Export Agency and secured the services of an excellent gentleman: Mr. Stanley F. Meadows, of the English Chamber of Commerce in Milan. It may be that during my absence Mr. Meadows will conclude some business transaction that necessitates opening a line of credit, and I hope that the Banca di Sconto will have no difficulty arranging this with my representative.
